RIGeL Summer School

Due to the large number of participants, this year the RIGeL Summer Academy Team will organize two Summer Schools again. The first Summer School will take place from 13 to 15 June 2019 in the monastery of Ensdorf (https://www.kloster-ensdorf.de/), the second one from 19 to 21 September 2019 in the monastery of Kostenz (https://erholung.barmherzige-kostenz.de/kloster/).

The registration period for both Summer Schools is from 13 to 22 March 2019. PhD students, who have started their PhD in 2016 and 2017/1, have the chance to register first for one of the Summer Schools until 13.03.2019. The registration will be available on this site during the registration period. Please note, that only PhD students already accepted for RIGeL can register for the Summer Schools. Due to the limited places in both Summer Schools we also kindly ask you to register only for one of the Summer Schools.

During the registration you can choose, in which Summer School you want to participate. Each section has a limited contingent of places according to the size of the section. The registration is on a first come, first served basis. If the places of your section are already booked, please register in the doodle-list below the registration link! Please send your abstract (max. 1500 characters in a Word file!) for poster and talk (talk: 10 min + 5 min discussion) until 13 May for June Summer School and until 15 August for September Summer School to Rigel.Summerschool@ur.de.

Like in the last two years all RIGeL sections will have joint Summer Schools, including PhD students of BIOMEDIGS (Biomedical International Graduate School of the University Hospital). These should increase the interaction between the sections and will help you to meet new people and get insight to new scientific areas.  Since there will be participants from all different sections of RIGeL, please try to keep your talks and posters as general and easy to understand as possible!

In the Summer Schools you will have the opportunity to get an overview of the different groups of the CBB,  Biomedicine, Neurobiology and MEE sections of RIGeL as well as the BIOMEDIGS graduate school of the Medical Faculty, exchange data and get new inputs and ideas for your projects. Supported also by our guest speakers, Dr. Lydia Kreuter (agap2 Germany) in the Summer School Ensdorf and N.N. in the Summer School Kostenz. Moreover, in a relaxed environment you can practice to present your data, to review others and to chair a scientific session. Thus, besides the presentation of your projects you will be given the opportunity to be chairpersons of scientific sessions. The chairpersons will be drawn by lot among all participants. Besides from scientific exchange participants will get to know each other more personally.

In order to improve our capacity of teamwork as well as our personal skills, different events will be offered additionally to the scientific program on the first day of both Summer Schools. In the Summer School Ensdorf we will have a Team Event of Geocaching (GPS-Schnitzeljagd). Around the monastery of Ensdorf there are interesting paths and places which will be explored with the help of GPS devices. The participants, guided by the GPS devices, should find the way in small groups. During the walk around the village Ensdorf they will learn more about nature and how to use a GPS device. In the Summer School Kostenz we will have a Bergwerkschallenge (mine challenge) in the Silberbergbergwek Bodenmais (silver mine Bodenmais): http://www.silberberg-online.de/im-berg/bergwerks-challenge.html and: https://www.set-eak.de/set/teamtraining/teamtraining/Bergwerks-Challenge.php. Participants will be divided into smaller groups. Armed with helmets, headlamps and maps teams have to find different stations. Behind each station there is a challenge, which can only be solved together with creativity, communication and courage. Each group is accompanied and coached by a guide. Please note, that in the mine there are temperatures of 5 to 10 °C degrees and you will need warm and resilient clothes that can get really dirty for this extraordinary experience! Solid shoes are obligatory! We recommend to bring other shoes to change.

Please remember that every PhD student has to participate actively in two RIGeL Summer Schools (1x poster, 1x talk) during her/his PhD in order to get the required RIGeL credit points.

A bus transfer will be organized for both Summer Schools.  Please note that even participants of the Summer Schools who do not want to attend the team event have to arrive at the Summer School venue at latest in the afternoon on the first day. A travel by private car cannot be reimbursed!

We are looking forward to seeing you in one of our Summer Schools!
